Tip #1: Save money on toys – Read to
your baby!
It is never
too early to start reading to your baby. As a matter of fact, the
early you start, the better. Results of various studies show babies
who are read to early on and on a consistent basis tend to have an
easier time focusing, often display language skills and recognition
skills sooner than other babies and may develop a love of books
they’ll carry with them all their lives. Reading and your one-on-one

What you choose to read to young
infants is not nearly as important as your inflection, enthusiasm, and
direct interaction you share with your baby. You can read out loud a

colorful pictures and simple words will allow your baby to focus in on
certain details of the pages. Expand your baby’s “play time” (and
eventually his imagination) with books by describing the pictures you
see on the different pages. As you do, you’ll begin teaching him to
look at things in more than one way. Just because it’s a book doesn’t
mean all you have to do is “read the words”; try describing the
pictures in your own words too. For example, if you’re reading an
animal book, then talk about the animal, what sound it makes, what
color it is, where it lives, what it eats, etc. Get creative with
reading and have fun. It does not matter whether you read the book
word for word or make up your own story. At this point, your baby
won’t care about the difference of the words as much as he does about
your quality time together.
